In the heart of Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest "Hiking, fishing, camping - outdoor recreation at its best."

The most memorable vacations aren't necessarily the most extravagant. Sometimes a casual weekend with close friends means much more than a stay at a posh resort. Go camping or find rustic cabins to share, build a fire, and toast to the simple pleasures in life.

The townsite of Silverton
The Silverton Washington website provides a listing of rustic cabins in
Silverton that are currently available for rent.
At the end of the 1800s Silverton was a bustling mining town of 300.
Today, the townsite is a remote "off the grid" community of cabins
surrounded by Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest, friendly
neighbors and the occasional bear.
Vacationing in Silverton is not for the faint of heart. If you're worried
about missing your cell phone call over the din of the hair dryer - this is
not the get-away for you. The power company has not reached
Silverton and we haven't seen the Verizon guy.

day is hiking the trails, fishing the Stilliguamish, camping or
reading a good book in front of the fire.
This is my kind of vacation."

The History of Silverton
This information is quoted from the book Everett and Monte Cristo Railway written by Phil Woodhouse, Daryl Jacobson, and Bill Petersen, Oso
Publishing Company 2000.
"When gold, silver, and copper ore was discovered in the area 22 miles east of Granite Falls around 1890, a stampede of fortune seekers
descended and a small mining camp sprang up on the only level spot in the valley for miles. The camp was originally called Camp
Independence, but the name was soon changed to Silverton when the postal service refused to deliver mail to the area, fearing confusion with
Independence, Oregon. New mines and prospects were filed almost daily with names such as Independence, Anacortes, Bonanza Queen,
Hoodoo, 45, and Little Chief gaining fame throughout the mining world. By 1893, the town boasted a number of hotels, restaurants, saloons, a
church and school, barber shop, cigar shop, livery stables, and other mining-related businesses, as well as a railroad depot. The commerce in
the community was dependent on the many mines and prospect holes in the area, and the Everett and Monte Cristo Railway enticed many
enterprises into the area. With the popular tourist trains passing through town, the town became a destination resort."
The town is a diverse community of old-timers; and more recent arrivals representing the gay and lesbian community. Silverton is located one
mile past Triangle Recreation Campground at Bender Creek (TRC). Today, a handful of residents call Silverton home and a few dozen summer
cottages are located within the valley.
